Hey everyone, my name is Kimberly and I am in my second year of college. I am engaged to my high school sweetheart and will be getting married on June 5. I CANT WAIT!!!! We moved here from Delaware - me in August 08 and him in January of this year. I have a little chihuahua named Monkee, and she is the cutest dog I have EVER seen. You would agree if you saw her :) I plan on teaching elementary education, preferably in the lower grades (kindergarten, first, second...). I plan on using technology by utilizing powerpoints to teach lessons, having activities on the computer for my students, for my gradebook, keeping in touch with parents through email. Technology is something that is pretty impossible NOT to use in today's world. I could find some kind of technology to use in every aspect of my classroom.
Learning how to use excel has been a huge help. I had learned a little bit about excel in high school, but had forgotten a lot of it. Having this refresher course was very helpful and I am using it for things like my budget, etc. Excel is perfect for organizing information and predicting the outcome, say an average or sum, etc. without having to do all the work. That's why I like it -- especially if you have a lot of information to organize.
I have a personal blog (that I haven't written on in a while). I think it is a great way to reflect on yourself and to keep in touch with others. I say reflecting on myself, because I will be a new teacher learning new ways of doing things. Writing in a blog will allow me to get either positive criticism or feedback that may be useful in developing my skills as a teacher. It would also be a great way to keep in touch with parents. like I saw someone else had said in their post. Internet is almost more accessible than sending a paper home for the parent. The child could lose the paper, but they cant lose the blog :) I think it would also be fun to have a class blog that the kids alternate writing in. It could include their experiences, such as what they learned that day, what they liked about it, what they didn't like. Not only would it be a great reflecting tool for the child, but a great tool to see what I could do better as a teacher.
Blogs are fun :)

Hey Kimberly,
ReplyDeleteI really liked the fact that we are learning more about excel to. I am using it currently for our budget as well. We are getting married on May 22. So about the same time to go for each of us. I am sooo excited. We are getting married in Alaska. That is where we are from. Are you going back to Delaware??
Awww.... we should have went back to delaware to have the wedding, but instead everyone is coming to us. I felt like it was too stressful trying to plan a wedding across the country. But it has made it so that the number of people who are going to be there is significantly less :( :( :(
