Hello Sorry I'm a little late...

Hey everyone, my name is Bruce, I am a CommEd major, only recently though. I had been over the past few years declared as a ITM major. As a result most of this teaching stuff has been beyond me. The struggle in this class has not been how to use the technology, rather it has been how to make the transition to an education degree. There is so much that I have to learn about being an educator. It really is overwhelming to say the least and I haven't even really gotten into the Education side of things. I have taken a Foundations of Education course this summer with Holly Anderson. She was such an awesome professor, I could take all my classes from her. I always enjoyed her stories about her pet Elk Ramone!

I am looking forward to my career as a Secondary Education teachers, I have a great connection ability with high school students. I have been envolved in teens lives for several years helping out as a youth leader at the church I attend, The Pursuit in west Boise. I have a couple of directions I would like to go as far as an educator, one direction would be broadcast technologies. I think that is an incredible field of study for young students. It is a skill that you can take with you right out of high school and become gainfully employed, it also prepares those who seek to continue their education in to college. This type of course is very technology driven. Students are required to use technology everyday, whether it is using a computer to create text for a teleprompter or to create graphic overlays for on-screen information.

Using blogs are a way I as a teacher can reach out to students outside of the classroom. I think that you can only do so much for some students they will only do the minimum to get by, but for those who love to excell you can give them that advanced level of support that would allow them to have a greater level of success. By posting blog information you can post video examples that will give them futher ideas for a project. You can also send reminders of homework assignments, and use it as a depot for extra credit projects. I beleive students love that extra special attention you can provide for them.

I am attaching a little clip that a former Communications Student made as a video project. The Video is a news report about our church

  1. I never realized how much work teachers put into designing lessons until taking this class. I definitely have a greater respect for them now. Education has been challenging for me, too. I majored in dental hygiene several years ago and it was a lot easier for me.

It is great that you are going to use your talents to teach students about broadcasting. I remember taking a class in junior high and I loved it. I have found that the best teachers are the ones who love what they teach. When a teacher is excited about a particular subject, it makes me eager to learn.

Has this class given you any new tools or provided you with new ways to use them?

Thanks for sharing your story. It is interesting to read about all the different people I have been working with over the past several weeks.

  2. Don't worry, I waited until I was a few semesters away from graduating before I switched to English education. I have tons of business classes now that do nothing for my change of heart. Which its good since I won't be having a case of the mondays everyday like I would have if I had stayed in business!
